Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved metastatic colorectal cancer patients who had not received prior chemotherapy. Patients were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A had 56 patients with a median age of 60.5 years and 58.9% male. Group B consisted of 49 patients with a median age of 61 years and 46.9% male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A received chemotherapy with S-1, oxaliplatin, and leucovorin.

Patients in group B received chemotherapy with leucovorin, fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin (mFOLFOX6).

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were of grade 4 and included neutropenia and lymphopenia. Grade 3 nerve toxicity, diarrhea, and anorexia were also reported.

The most severe toxicities in group B were of grade 4 and included neutropenia and lymphopenia. Grade 3 anorexia and febrile neutropenia were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 29.9 and 25.9 months, respectively.
