Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 35 patients with unresectable (i.e. inoperable) advanced non-small-cell lung carcinoma. All patients had been previously treated with one chemotherapy regimen prior to this treatment.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of two chemotherapy drugs, topotecan (hycamtin) and gemcitabine (gemzar).

Toxicity: Grade 1-4 toxicities included neutropenia and thrombocytopenia. Other toxicities (grade 1-3) included anemia, fatigue, fever, headache, shortness of breath, nausea/emesis, anorexia, mucositis, dermatitis, arthralgia, and diarrhea.

Results: The overall median survival was 7 months.
