Description:

Patients: This study involved 14 patients with progressive or recurrent malignant gliomas. Twelve had glioblastoma multiforme and 2 had anaplastic astrocytoma.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of the chemotherapy drug, Irinotecan (Camptosar, CPT-11).

Toxicity: Primarily hematologic toxicity. Grade 3-4 neutropenia, nausea, and vomiting.

Results: Median survival for all patients was 24 weeks (5.6 months).

Support: The study was supported by a “grant-in-aid” from Pharmacia Corporation and two of the study’s authors are either employees or consultants of Pharmacia. Phamacia is involved in sale of CPT-11.
