Description:

Patients:
This study involved 72 men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. The median patient age was 72 years.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agents docetaxel and estramustine, as well as the steroid dexamethasone, which works as an anti-inflammatory.

Toxicities:
There were two treatment-related deaths from pneumonia. Grade 3-4 anemia, swelling, and pleural effusion (increase in fluid surrounding the lungs).

Results:
The median progression-free survival and overall survival were 6 and 23 months, respectively.
