Description:

Patients: This phase I/II study involved 38 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Their median age was 60, ranging from 35-73 years old. The majority (26) were men. Sixty-six percent of patients had metastatic disease at a single site.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drugs capecitabine, oxaliplatin, and irinotecan.

Toxicity: The most frequent grade 3-4 toxicities were diarrhea and nausea, which occurred in 24 and 16% of patients, respectively. Other, less common grade 3-4 adverse events included anemia, thrombocytopenia, stomatitis, abnormal enzyme levels, and vomiting. No grade 3 or 4 neutropenia was reported.

Result: The median overall survival time was 23.5 months, ranging from 7.6 to over 38.2 months.
