Description:

Patients: This phase 2 study involved 38 women with metastatic breast cancer. The median age was 53, ranging from 30 to 69 years. Most of them (68.4%) were post-menopausal.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the biological therapy trastuzumab and the chemotherapy drug capecitabine.

Toxicity: Neutropenia was reported in 19 patients. Two patients had grade 3 neutropenia, and the others were grade 1 or 2. Three patients had grade 3 hand-foot syndrome and there was one report each of grade 3 vomiting and diarrhea.

Results: The median overall survival was 22.3 months.
