Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved 35 patients with metastatic breast cancer. The median age of the women was 56 years, and 26 had been previously treated for recurrent or metastatic disease. Metastatic sites included lung/pleura (19), liver (11), bone (12), and lymph nodes (8).

Treatment: The treatment involved one chemotherapeutic drug: paclitaxel

Toxicity: One grade-4 dyspnea was reported, likely due to "a hypersensitivity reaction to paclitaxel." Grade 1-3 toxicities included leukopenia, neutropenia, diarrhea, arthalgia, and anorexia.

Results: The median overall survival was 20.5 months (624 days). The authors recommended weekly paclitaxel administration as a first-line or second-line therapy for recurrent or advanced breast cancer.
