Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved 40 men with hormone refractory prostate cancer. The median age was 72, ranging from 55-83 years old.

Treatment: These patients were treated with docetaxel and estramustine, then most of them (27 of the 40 patients) were also given mitoxantrone and prednisone.

Toxicity: Grade 3/ 4 neutropenia, liver toxicity, deep vein thrombosis, and stomatitis were reported. The most common of these was liver toxicity, reported in 17.5% of patients.

Results: The median overall survival was 19.2 months.
