Description:

Patients:
This phase 3 study involved advanced urothelial cancer patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 63 patients with a median age of 66 years and 84.1% male. Group B had 63 patients with a median age of 65 years and 87.3% male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the chemotherapy agents methotrexate, vinblastine, adriamycin, and cisplatin.

Patients in group B were treated with the chemotherapy agents gemcitabine and cisplatin.

Toxicities:
There were two treatment-related deaths in group A due to infection. Grade 4 neutropenia and grade 3 fatigue were also reported.

The most severe toxicities in group B were of grade 4 and included anemia and neutropenia. Grade 3 infection and fatigue were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival for groups A and B was 19 and 18 months, respectively.
