Description:

Patients: This Phase II study enrolled 130 men, who were randomized into three groups. Group A had 44 men (median age 68) with hormonal-resistant prostate cancer. For all patients, metastatic sites involved up to two organs and included bone and lymph node tissue.

Treatment: The treatment for group A involved three chemotherapeutic agents: docetaxel (intravenous), estramustine (oral), and prednisone.

Toxicities: Grade 3-4 toxicities in group A included granulocytopenia, diarrhea, thrombosis, nausea, vomiting, and anemia.

Results: In group A, one patient died due to complications from diabetes (previously diagnosed). The overall median survival for group A was 18.6 months.
