Description:

Patients: This Phase II trial involved a total of 39 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. For 29 patients the site of the primary tumor was in the colon. For 9 patients it was in the rectum. And for one patient, it was both. There were 23 men and 16 women. The median age was 64. Twenty-seven patients had a complete resection of the primary tumor and twelve had an incomplete resection.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of chemotherapy – FOLFOX-6 (Oxaliplatin plus 5-FU and leucovorin (the active form of the B complex vitamin, folate) and FOLFIRI (Irinotecan plus 5-FU and leucovorin).

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included neutropenia and diarrhea.

Results: The median overall survival was 18.7 months.
