Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 77 newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients with a median age of 57 year; 48 were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with radiation therapy, chemotherapy with temozolomide, and a vaccine called autologous dendritic cell tumor vaccine. For this therapy, patients’ own immune cells are collected from blood, cultured and trained to target tumor cells, then injected back into the patient in order to direct the immune system to attack the tumor cells.

Toxicities:
There was one treatment-related death due to infection. Grade 4 stroke, thrombocytopenia, and lymphocytopenia were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 18.3 months.
