Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved 42 women with previously treated metastatic breast cancer. The median age was 57, ranging from 33 to 82 years old.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drug capecitabine and the biological therapy celecoxib. Celecoxib is an inhibitor of COX-2.

Toxicity: Five grade 3 toxicities were reported: hand-foot syndrome, mucositis, nail changes, neutropenia, and anemia. Grade 1 and 2 toxicities included anemia, neutropenia, nausea/vomiting, hand-foot syndrome, heartburn, and fatigue.

Results: The median overall survival was 17.8 months.
