Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 28 patients with advanced colorectal cancer with distant metastases.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of three drugs – 5-FU (adrucil), leucovorin, and PALA (a type of enzyme inhibitor).

Toxicity: One patient died of a treatment related infection. Grade 3-4 toxicities included: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, anemia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, infection, bilirubin increase, dyspnea, hypercalcemia, and stomatitis.

Results: Estimated median survival was 17.4 months.
