Description:

Patients: This study involved 322 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Of these, a little over half (58%) were men. They ranged in age from 37-84, and the median age was 63 years old.

Treatment: Patients were treated with chemotherapy drugs, either oxaliplatin and capecitabine or oxaliplatin and fluorouracil/leucovorin.

Toxicity: Two patients died, from severe diarrhea and dehydration. Other toxicities (grade 3 and less severe) included neutropenia, febrile neutropenia, anemia, diarrhea, thrombocytopenia, neuropathy, gastric symptoms, stomatitis and allergic reaction.

Results: The median overall survival was 16 months for patients that were treated with oxaliplatin and capecitabine, and 17.1 months for those treated with oxaliplatin and fluorouracil/leucovorin.
