Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 36 patients with a median age of 55 years, and 52.8% were female. Group B had 70 patients with a median age of 59 years, and 37.1% were female.

Treatment:
Patients in group A received radiation therapy and chemotherapy with temozolomide.

Patients in group B received radiation therapy, chemotherapy with temozolomide, and biologic therapy with vandetanib (a tyrosine kinase inhibitor).

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were of grade 4 and included grade 3+ lymphocytopenia, neutropenia, and liver toxicity.

There was one treatment-related death due to pneumonia in group B. Grade 3+ lymphocytopenia, liver toxicity, and fatigue were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival times for groups A and B were 15.9 and 16.6 months, respectively.
