Description:

Patients:
This phase 3 study involved newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A had 411 patients of whom 27% were younger than 50 years and 58% were male. Group B had 422 patients of whom 26% were younger than 50 years and 56% were male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were given radiation therapy and chemotherapy with the standard dose of temozolomide.

Group B was treated with radiotherapy and a dose-dense temozolomide regimen.

Toxicities:
An unspecified number of treatment-related deaths were reported for group A. Grade 4 lymphopenia and grade 3 fatigue were also reported.

An unspecified number of treatment-related deaths were reported for group B. Grade 4 thrombocytopenia and lymphopenia were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival times for groups A and B were 16.6 and 14.9 months, respectively.
