Description:

Patients: This Phase II trial involved 37 patients with hormone refractory (androgen independent) prostate cancer. Median age was 66 years and median PSA was 63 (range 1.1 – 2021).

Treatment: The treatment consisted of chemotherapy – cyclophosphamide, hormone therapy – diethylstilbestrol (an estrogen), and prednisone.

Toxicity: Four patients experienced cardiovascular toxicity – myocardial infarction (1 patient), popliteal DVT (1 patient), a clot in a abdominal aortic aneurysm graft (1 patient), and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (1 patient). Other grade 3-4 toxicities included lymphopenia.

Results: The overall median survival was 16.4 months.
