Description:

Patients:
This phase II study involved 42 patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer that had not received any prior treatment. The median age was 62 years (range 36-75) and 82% were male.

Treatment:
Patients received two chemotherapy agents, gemcitabine and cisplatin. These drugs prevent cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
The highest toxicity reported for this study was of grade 4, which was mostly neutropenia (27% of patients). Other reported toxicities included leucopenia (grades 1-4), anemia (grades 1-4), and nausea/vomiting (grades 1-3).

Results:
The median overall survival for this study was 15.7 months.
