Description:

Patients: This phase 2 study involved 49 patients with recurrent or persistant ovarian or primary peritoneal cancer. These women’s cancer was also resistant to treatment with platinum and taxane based chemotherapy. Most of them (84%) were between the ages of 50 and 79 years.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drug ixabepilone.

Toxicity: Grade 3 or 4 leukopenia, neutropenia, fatigue, gastrointestinal (vomiting, diarrhea), neurological, anemia, and pain toxicities were reported, each in less than 10% of patients. Grade 2 leukopenia was reported in 20% of patients.

Results: The median overall survival was 14.8 months.
