Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 89 malignant pleural mesothelioma patients. The median patient age was 67 years and 78% were male.

Treatment:
Patients received chemotherapy with pemetrexed and cisplatin, and they received biologic therapy with amatuximab, a monoclonal antibody to mesothelin, a protein on the surface of cancer cells.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 neutropenia, fatigue, anorexia, and nausea.

Results:
The median overall survival was 14.8 months.
