Description:

Patients: This Phase III study involved 234 patients with stage III non-small-cell lung cancer. Patients were divided into two groups: Group A (117 patients) and Group B (117 patients).

Treatment: For patients in Group B, the treatment consisted of chemotherapy, etoposide (vepesid) and cisplatin (platinol) plus radiotherapy (60 Gray in 30 daily fractions).

Toxicity: In Group B, 3 patients died of acute toxicity (pneumonitis, infection, and renal failure). Other toxicities included grade 3-4 leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, nausea, vomiting, esophagitis, pneumonitis, and dyspnea.

Results: Median survival time for patients in Group B was 14 months.
