Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 35 patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma; 27 men and 8 women. The median age was 62. All patients had received prior immunotherapy and their cancers had grown or spread during or after this treatment.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of subcutaneous interleukin-2 (IL-2), interferon alpha-2a (IFNalpha), the chemotherapy drug, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU, adrucil).

Toxicity: Grade 3 toxicities included fever, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, skin disorders, hypotension, mucositis, cardiotoxicity, and hematological.

Results: The median survival for all patients was 14 months.
