Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved 98 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. There were 58 men and 40 women. The median age was 64, ranging from 38 to 93 years of age.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapies tegafur-uracil (UFT) and leucovorin.

Toxicity: Two patients died from treatment-related causes. One death occurred in a 79 year old patient with severe diarrhea and renal failure. The other was an 82 year old patient with severe diarrhea and sepsis. All patients experienced at least one toxic side effect. The most common toxicities were asthenia, diarrhea, and nausea. The most common grade 3 or 4 toxicities were diarrhea, asthenia, dehydration, nausea, and vomiting.

Results: The median overall survival was 12.8 months.
