Description:

Patients: This study involved 46 patients with stage III non-small-cell lung cancer who had not received prior chemotherapy. The median age of the patients was 63.5 years old.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of three drugs – gemcitabine (gemzar), cisplatin (platinol), and vinorelbine (navelbine). In addition nine patients underwent surgery and 31 patients were administered radiotherapy.

Toxicity: There were two toxic deaths, one from neutropenic fever and pneumonia and one from unknown causes following chemotherapy. Grade 1 to 4 toxicities included hematologic, nausea, vomiting, creatinine, stomatitis, diarrhea, cardiac function, dyspnea, liver enzymes and renal toxicity.

Results: Median overall survival was 50 weeks (11.5 months).
