Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 46 advanced metastatic melanoma patients. The average patient age was 51.5 years (range of 19-82) and 52% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agent temozolomide and the biologic therapy agent rucaparib, which is a poly(ADP ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor that may enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs.

Toxicities:
There were two treatment-related deaths due to infection and liver and kidney failure. Grade 3-4 neutropenia, leucopenia, fatigue, and headache were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 9.9 months.
