Description:

Patients: A total of 28 patients were enrolled in this Phase II study. There were fourteen anaplastic astrocytoma patients whose tumors have recurred and fourteen patients with recurring glioblastoma multiforme.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of two chemotherapy drugs, carboplatin (paraplatin) and etoposide (vepesid).

Toxicity: Toxicities were mainly hematological, gastrointestinal, and hepatic. In 167 courses of therapy there was one instance of grade 4 leucopenia, and three instances of grade 4 thrombocytopenia. (There were 17 instances of grade 3 leucopenia and 4 instances of grade 3 thrombosytopenia.)

Results: There were no complete responses. The time from recurrence to death was 9.4 months for the glioblastoma multiforme patients.
