Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved metastatic melanoma patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 168 patients with a median age of 60 years; 61.3% were male. Group B had 168 patients with a median age of 60 years; 62.5% were male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A received chemotherapy with tasisulam.

Patients in group B received chemotherapy with paclitaxel.

Toxicities:
There were 13 reported treatment-related deaths in group A due to sepsis/fever (infection).

The most severe toxicities in group B were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, and diarrhea.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 6.77 and 9.36 months, respectively.
