Description:

Patients: This phase II trial involved 39 men with hormone-refractory, metastatic prostate cancer. All had a prior cytotoxic therapy and their disease progressed. The median age was 73 years, ranging from 42 to 97.

Treatment: All men were given the steroid dexamethasone and the chemotherapy drug thalidomide.

Toxicity: Three instances of grade 4 thrombosis occurred, and there was one report each of grade 4 ureteral obstruction, thrombocytopenia, and leucopenia or neutropenia. Grade 1-2 events were most common, including

Results: The median overall survival was 8.7 months (265 days).
