Description:

Patients:
This study involved 17 metastatic melanoma patients with a median age of 53 years (range 34-85) and 35% male.

Treatment:
Patients in this study received a chemotherapy agent called UCN-01 (or 7-hydroxystaurosporine), which blocks cell growth of cancer cells.

Toxicities:
The maximum toxicity level reported in this study was grade 4, which included one case each of anemia and elevated creatinine level. The most common toxicities were hyperglycemia (65% of patients), nausea (53%), and anemia (grade 1-4; 41%)

Results:
The median progression free survival was 1.3 months. Median overall survival was 7.3 months.
