Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 32 metastatic melanoma patients. The median patient age was 65 years and 53.1% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent called axitinib, an inhibitor of the VEGFR protein that interferes with cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
There was one treatment-related death due to bowel perforation. Grade 3-4 fatigue and high blood pressure were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 6.6 months.
