Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 59 malignant pleural mesothelioma patients who had received prior treatment. The median patient age was 67 years and 76% were male.

Treatment:
Patients received biologic therapy with everolimus, which is an inhibitor of mTOR that interferes with cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
There was one death that was possibly treatment-related due to dyspnea (shortness of breath). Grade 3 or higher fatigue, mucositis (inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract), and lung infection were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 6.3 months.
