Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 46 HER+ metastatic breast cancer patients (all female) with a median age of 60 years.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agents vinorelbine and capecitabine, as well as the biologic therapy agent trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody that interferes with the HER2 receptor to slow cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
There was one death due to gastrointestinal tract hemorrhage during this study. Grade 4 neutropenia, leukopenia, and diarrhea were reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 28.5 months.
