Description:

Patients: This Phase I/II trial involved 21 patients with advanced (stage IIIB or IV) non-small-cell lung cancer. The average age of the patients was 67.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of two chemotherapy drugs – vinorelbine (navelbine) and carboplatin (paraplatin).

Toxicity: There were grade 4 hematological toxicities (leucopenia and neutropenia). Other toxicities (grade 3 or less) included fatigue, GI/constipation, nausea/vomiting, alopecia, nonfebrile infection, and neurotoxicity.

Results: Median overall survival was 5.6 months.

Support: The authors acknowledged an unrestricted grant from GlaxoSmithKline to conduct the trial.
