Description:

Patients:
This involved advanced hepatocellular carcinoma patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A had 26 patients with a median age of 53.5 years. Group B had 26 patients with a median age of 59.5 years. Gender information was not provided.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the biologic therapy agent sorafenib.

Patients in group B were given chemotherapy with cisplatin.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were of grade 4 and included hand–foot skin reaction, fatigue, and liver dysfunction.

In group B, the most severe toxicities were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 liver dysfunction and thrombocytopenia.

Results:
The median overall survival was 7.05 months in group A and 5.07 months in group B.
