Description:

Patients: This Phase II trial involved a total of 50 patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer with brain metastases. There were 40 men and 10 women. Subtypes included squamous cell (30 patients), adenocarcinoma (10 patients), and large cell (10 patients).

Treatment: The treatment consisted of chemotherapy (temozolomide and cisplatin) followed by whole brain radiotherapy.

Toxicity: One patient died before the second cycle of chemotherapy because of pulmonary embolism. Grade 4 toxicities included netropenia and thrombocytopenia.

Results: The median overall survival was 5 months.
