Description:

Patients: This Phase II trial involved 18 patients; 16 had recurrent glioblastoma, and 2 had recurrent anaplastic astrocytoma. There were 14 men and 4 women, and the median age was 62. All patients previously received surgery, radiotherapy, and no more than one chemotherapeutic treatment.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of one chemotherapeutic drugs: T138067-sodium. This experimental compound interferes with cell division.

Toxicity: The following grade 1-3 toxicities were reported: granulocytoma, white blood cell deficiency, fatigue, gastrointestinal, and neurological.

Results: No responses were seen and three patients achieved a median overall survival of 2.6 months. The trial was terminated. The authors concluded that "T138067-sodium showed no evidence of objective antitumor activity in this population...".
