Description:

Patients: This Phase I study involved 17 rectal adenocarcinoma patients. Patients had T4 rectal carcinoma, T1-T3 disease with colostomy refusal, or potentially operable T2/T3 M1 requiring local treatment.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of pelvic radiotherapy with chemotherapy – oxaliplatin (eloxatin), L-folinic acid (leucovorin), and fluorouracil (5-FU, adrucil).

Toxicity: Only one patient had any grade 4 toxicities (diarrhea). Other toxicities (grades 1-3) included: hematologic, neurosensory, gastrointestinal, and weight loss.

Results: Survival was not discussed although there were seven complete, seven partial, and three minor responses.
