Description:

Patients:
This study involved malignant pleural mesothelioma patients who had received prior chemotherapy and surgery and were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 14 patients with an average age of 61 years; 13 were men. Groups B had 25 patients with an average age of 61 years; 22 were men.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with highly conformal radiotherapy (HCRT).

Patients in group B were treated with 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT).

Toxicities:
There were treatment related deaths in group A due to septic shock and cardiac events.

There was one treatment related death in group B due to septic shock.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 20.8 and 26.9 months, respectively.
