Description:

Patients: This study involved 35 women with metastatic breast cancer. They median age was 56, ranging from 30 to 83 years. Most (63%) were post-menopausal.

Treatment: Patients were treated with trastuzumab and gefitinib. These are both biological therapies. Trastuzumab is a monoclonal antibody and gefitinib is a small molecule.

Toxicity: Grade 3 or 4 diarrhea, rash, nausea/vomiting, pruritis, conjunctivitis, and abnormal laboratory finding were reported. The most common was diarrhea, experienced by 32% of patients. One patient had grade 4 neutropenia.

Results: The median overall survival was 27 months.
