Description:

Patients:
This study involved 15 metastatic colorectal cancer patients who had the BRAF genetic mutation. The median patient age was 56 years and 40% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent bevacizumab (an angiogenesis inhibitor that interferes with tumor blood supply) and the chemotherapy agents irinotecan, oxaliplatin, leucovorin, and 5-fluorouracil.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 neutropenia, stomatitis (inflammation of the GI tract lining), and diarrhea.

Results:
The median overall survival was 24.1 months.
