Description:

Patients: This phase II trial enrolled 50 women (median age of 54, ranging from 31-81), and 41 were able to be in the study. Of these, 26 had one prior course of chemotherapy and 15 had two prior courses. More than half the patients had metastatic disease to a single organ.

Treatment: All eligible women received a combination of trastuzumab (herceptin, a monoclonal antibody) and vinorelbine (a chemotherapy).

Toxicity: One grade 5 toxicity, due to acute renal failure in a patient with bone metastases. Grade 3-4 neutropenia occured in almost half the patients, other grade 3-4 toxicities included anemia and neutropenia with fever.

Results: The median survival was 22.7 months. As of July 2006, 40 patients had suffered progression of their disease and 24 patients had died.
