Description:

Patients:
This phase II study involved 75 patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma. Of the patients, 45 were male and the median age was 55.6 years.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with radiation therapy, the biologic therapy agent bevacizumab (an antibody that blocks a protein involved in cancer cell growth), and the chemotherapy agents temozolomide and irinotecan.

Toxicities:
Treatment-related deaths due to sepsis and pulmonary embolism were reported. Grade 4 thrombocytopenia and neutropenia were also reported.

Results:
The reported median overall survival was 21.2 months.
