Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 51 patients with locally advanced (stage IIIA or IIIB) non–small-cell lung cancer. Thirty-four patients were men, and seventeen were women. The mean age was 58 years.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of two chemotherapy agents (paclitaxel and carboplatin) and thoracic radiation with efaproxiral (a drug that acts as a radiation sensitizer).

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included hypoxemia, radiation pneumonitis, and fatigue.

Results: The median overall survival was 20.6 months.
