Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 40 non-small-cell lung cancer patients with a median age of 67 years; 65% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with radiation therapy, chemotherapy with paclitaxel and carboplatin, and biologic therapy with cetuximab, an EGFR monocolonal antibody that inhibits tumor growth.

Toxicities:
There was one grade 5 adverse event due to pneumonitis (lung inflammation). Grade 4 infection and pulmonary embolism were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 19.4 months.
