Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 20 women with HER2-overexpressing metastatic breast cancer. All patients received chemotherapy before the study. The median age was 52.5 years. Metastatic sites were predominantly visceral.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of two chemotherapeutic agents - gemcitabine and cisplatin, and a biological therapy - trastuzumab (a monoclonal antibody).

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, anemia, nausea/vomiting, and neurotoxicity.

Results: The median overall survival was 18.8 months. Eight patients partially responded to treatment, and eight patients achieved stable disease.
