Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 34 men with hormone refractory prostate cancer. The median age was 67 years. Previous therapies included surgery (13 patients), radiation (24), and estramustine chemotherapy (14). Metastatic sites included lymph nodes, liver, and lung.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of one chemotherapeutic agent: sabarubicin.

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included neutropenia, leukopenia, anemia, cardiac toxicity, and thrombocytopenia.

Results: The median overall survival was 18.7 months. One patient had a partial response, and seven had stable disease.
