Description:

Patients: This study involved 42 men with chemotherapy-naive metastatic hormone-resistant prostate cancer. The median age was 73 years. None of the patients had received chemotherapy prior to this study.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of one chemotherapeutic agent: ixabepilone.

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included neutropenia, leukopenia, neurologic toxicity, hematologic toxicity, flu-like symptoms, and infection.

Results: The median overall survival was 18 months.
