Description:

Patients:
This phase 3 study involved 33 castration-resistant prostate cancer patients who had received prior docetaxel-based chemotherapy. The median patient age was 67 years (range: 52-88).

Treatment:
Patients received chemotherapy with gemcitabine and oxaliplatin and the steroid hormone prednisolone.

Toxicities:
There were three treatment-related deaths due to gastrointestinal bleeding (1 patient) and viral pneumonia (2 patients). Grade 4 neutropenia, leucopenia and thrombocytopenia, and grade 3 diarrhea were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 17.6 months.
