Description:

Patients:
This phase 3 study involved recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer patients who were divided into two treatment groups. Group A had 458 patients with a median age of 59 years, while group B had 461 patients with a median age of 60 years.

Treatment:
Patients in group A received chemotherapy with paclitaxel.

Patients in group B received chemotherapy with paclitaxel and biologic therapy with trebananib, which inhibits the Tie2 receptor protein to interfere with tumor blood supply.

Toxicities:
There was one treatment-related death in group A due to respiratory problems. Grade 4 neutropenia and grade 3 fatigue and abdominal pain were also reported.

There were two treatment-related deaths in group B due to abdominal pain and swelling. Grade 3 ascites (fluid buildup) was also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 17.3 and 19.0 months, respectively.
